Overview

MiaoYan is a Markdown note app for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Your notes are plain files in a folder you choose, and they stay there.

Data collection

MiaoYan does not collect, store or transmit your notes or any personal data. It has no account, no analytics and no advertising or tracking code.

Network requests

The app only goes online in these cases:

• When a note contains a PlantUML diagram, the diagram's source text is sent to plantuml.com to draw the image. Nothing else from the note is sent, and notes without PlantUML send nothing.
• Images and links you put in a note load from the addresses written in it, as in any Markdown preview.
• The Mac version downloaded from GitHub checks miaoyan.app/appcast.xml for updates. The App Store version is updated by the App Store instead.
• If you turn on image upload, pasted images go to the uPic, PicGo, Picsee, or PicList app running on your own Mac at 127.0.0.1, and from there to the image host you set up in it.

iCloud and other sync

If your notes folder is in iCloud Drive, Apple syncs it under Apple's Privacy Policy. The same goes for Nutstore, Dropbox or any other sync client you use. MiaoYan has no access to those accounts.

This website

miaoyan.app counts visits with Google Analytics without setting cookies. It does not affect the app.
